From October 1, the Vatican will be open only to people who have a valid coronavirus passport. As the Holy See announced today, every resident, employee or visitor to the Papal States must use it to prove vaccination against Covid-19, recovery or a negative test.
Certificates include a “green passport” issued by the Vatican, as well as the EU’s “green passport” or other foreign certificates. The Vatican announced entry controls by its own gendarmerie corps.
An exception to the new rules applies only to those times when believers attend masses and liturgical celebrations at the Vatican. However, they are encouraged to follow the hygiene rules. With its decree, the Pontifical Commission for the State of the Vatican City followed an instruction from Pope Francis to ensure the safety and health of people in the Papal State.
